P for Breakfast

Over the last month, I've set up a series of important breakfast meetings.

My friend, Jenny K, has a regular meeting with her dad at Starbucks every Saturday morning. This is her opportunity to get some quiet time away from her 2 sons and connect with her dad. I was once invited as a "special guest" and had a great time meeting with them and talking about the interesting topics surrounding our lives at the time. This was my inspiration.

As I've gotten older, it is harder and harder to find time for family(even when I try to up the priority). My in-laws, though we seem to spend a significant amount of time together, we tend to learn little about each other considering the amount of time spent. Specifically, as much as I see my mother-in-law, I found that we rarely got to talk 1 on 1...and after 3+ years, I'd like to know more about her(other than her ability to worry about and care for her adult kids) As a result, I thought it would be good idea to meet with her on a regular basis...to get to know each other better. We've met 2 times so far, and its been great. She's a great lady with an resilient life story. I love hearing about her childhood and the amazing family that she grew up with.

I've since grown "Breakfast with P" to include my parents too...and today, because my mother-in-law is out of town, I met with my sister and her family. We met at Panera Bread and had a great time. Her kids are full of energy and are about as sweet as kids get.

Breakfast with P is my early Saturday morning way of re-connecting with family and spending quality time. I hope to continue well into fatherhood, as a dad of the future.
