It's Sylvia's Room now!

Today, some friends celebrated the birthday of my good friend Heather(see pic). From 2004-2005 I was a part-time resident at Ted and Heather's house. Sleeping in what's now their daughter Sylvia's room. Today was Heather's 33rd birthday(or what they call her "Hobbit Birthday") ..long story.....anyway, it was a great time. Many of these friends used to play in various rock/ska bands in our city. 5-10 years ago, we were talking about a show, a cool band we'd recently seen, or other "artsy" related conversation. Today, I realized that things are very different. Julie, a former bass player and all around awesome person, is now(still awesome and) a dedicated mom..and devoted to her new low end, Eliott. There were more kids than instruments at this party...and I noticed it. We're all a little older and into different things...mostly having or raising kids.

Being that this is our 1st child due, many friends were excited to offer advice. I found it interesting that my conversation with Jenny focused on the pain of breastfeeding. With Darrell, we spent time talking about baby girl names. Heather and I talked about cloth vs. disposable diapers. Ted was showing everyone his expanding "playroom." Funny, right?

For me, these are great people...who care enough to talk about the meaningful stuff. I appreciate that. As I noticed the change, I also noticed something else. I like getting older...and don't understand people who want to stay young forever. Staying young, to me, means doing the same thing over and over...I think that entering a new chapter in your life is far more fun than repetition. ...and doing it with your friends makes it even better.

Anyway, I have no idea what to do about the diaper dilema. And, I will certainly be more sensitive to my wife's nipple pain during breastfeeding. Either way, I was glad to see Heather, Ted, daughter Sylvia and everyone else while enjoying some great grilled Korean-style steak.

All in all, a great day.
