Headed for the Summit!

This week, I went to Las Vegas for work. This was my 1st time in Vegas...and my 1st time attending our biggest commercial real estate convention. I learned a lot.

The convention/trip was long and tiring, but a very good learning experience. I probably walked the convention hall 15 times - which they tell me is 1 mile long. I really like my job and want to get better at it too....so even though I hate the cheesy/fake real estate jack-asses, I did spend the last 3 days getting to know more people in my business and learning about what we do and how others do the same.

As for Vegas. Not my bag. This is the place for you...if you are a potential candidate for Rock of Love Bus. It's the Six-Flags for adults. But for me...the over-the-top party town just isn't really my version of fun. Needless to say, I skipped the Topless Vampire show. I did, however, tried my hand at gambling. I spent $20 at the Black Jack tables. That was fun. I've never really gambled before. I was up almost $100 at one point, but lost it all really quickly. Shame on me.

The real reason that this trip is worth posting was the great hike we took as soon as we got there Sunday morning. 2 of the 3 other people on my "Real Estate Strategy Team" and our Canadian Real Estate Manager set out on a hike in the Red Rocks Canyon, just outside of Las Vegas. It turned out to be a 5 mile hike, climbing up about 2500feet. Like gambling, I've never done any kind of a hike like this. This was a leg-screaming-cause-this-trail-keeps-going-up-and-up-and-up type of climb. It was a ton of fun and I couldn't believe that we climbed up that high! A five hour walk with a view that was out of this world. You could see the entire city of Las Vegas from the very top!!

For whatever reason, I've been really getting into outdoors stuff. Riding my bike, exercising, hiking, etc. This was just one more recent experience that got me thinking about my future family. Camping, hiking, fishing, biking, etc., these are the things that make for great times, connections, and memories for kids. I look forward to those times. Until then, I'll keep riding, hiking, climbing, running and fishing so that maybe I'll be able to pass on some "skills that Dad taught me" later on.

PS - Usually I bring home a shirt or coffee mug for my wife whenever I go to a new city. This time, I bought a Onesy for the Baby - "Potty like a Rock-Star - Las Vegas" I hope she likes it?!
